Using GIS for Hazardous Materials Planning in Dallas County


Presentation Outline:
GIS is an essential part of Hazardous Materials Planning that allows for multiple applications such as data analysis, visualizing, and web mapping. With over 1400 facilities in Dallas County using the TIER II chemical reporting system, GIS tools like R, ArcMap, and QGIS help identify priority areas and facilities to inform planning and training to deal with chemical-related incidents.


About The Speaker:

Bernardo Salazar, AICP blends data, technology, and GIS to understand the urban environment. With a diverse background working with nonprofits, community design, political campaigns, public policy, and more recently, emergency management, Bernardo draws from these experiences to generate a multidisciplinary strategy to address common geospatial and data challenges. He holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology, a graduate degree in Urban Planning.
