3D Analysis of Flood Impacts in Missouri City Considering Rainfall Rates
Missouri City, a suburb of Houston, is particularly vulnerable to hurricane-related flooding. Effective preparation and risk prediction are essential not only for minimizing damages but also for saving lives. This presentation will detail the development of a flood impact analysis model tailored for Missouri City, incorporating rainfall rates aligned with real-time weather data. Additionally, we will explore the creation of Level of Detail 2 (LOD2) building models to enhance the visualization of flood impacts. Jian Wang has been with the City of Missouri City for six years, serving as the GIS Administrator and leading a team of four. He is also a part-time adjunct professor at Houston Community College, where he shares his passion for GIS with students, helping them understand its real-world applications.
Jian holds a Master’s degree in GIS, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in the same field. Recently, he dedicated his efforts to developing an Emergency Management dashboard that incorporates flood impact analysis based on rainfall rates. This tool enables city personnel to better prepare for potential flooding, ultimately saving lives and minimizing damages. His work played a crucial role during the city’s response to Hurricane Beryl.
